Hajj from Canada: register on Nusuk direct
Canadians book Hajj directly on the Nusuk Hajj platform; no agency can issue the visa. Registration, timeline, costs, health documents, embassy and flights, checked against official and national sources.
How Hajj registration works in Canada
Canada has no government Hajj office; Canadian pilgrims book through Saudi Arabia's Nusuk Hajj platform or a private Canadian Hajj travel agent. As in the US, there's no single national bonding scheme specific to Hajj, vetting an agent means checking their business registration (and, for the travel component, whether they're covered by a provincial travel-industry compensation fund such as Ontario's TICO where applicable), community references from established mosques, and years of consistent operation. Booking usually opens roughly a year ahead with a deposit and installment payments. Canada's Hajj-sending community is relatively small, so popular agents' group sizes can fill quickly for peak departure dates, and pilgrims should confirm exactly what's included in a quoted price before paying a deposit.
Canada has no government Hajj office. The Canadian Embassy in Riyadh confirmed for 2026 that Canadian Muslims register directly on the Nusuk Hajj platform under the Direct Hajj Program for Muslim-minority countries. Packages are sold there by licensed Saudi providers on a first-come basis; Canadian agencies can only assist with flights and preparation.
Step by step
- Create an account on hajj.nusuk.sa when registration opens for the coming season (for Hajj 2026 it opened in autumn 2025) and verify your identity with your passport.
- Compare packages from licensed Saudi service providers inside the platform: camp location in Mina, hotel distance in Makkah and Madinah, transport, and what meals are included. Read our guide to Nusuk package tiers first.
- Pay through the platform. Your Hajj visa, Nusuk card and permits are issued against that booking; no Canadian agency can issue them separately.
- Book your own flights to Jeddah or Madinah for the dates on the package, and get the meningococcal vaccine at least 10 days before you fly.
- If you want help, use a Canadian agency only for flights, preparation classes and group travel, and confirm the Hajj package itself sits in your own Nusuk account.
Typical timeline
| When | What happens |
|---|---|
| About 8 to 9 months before Hajj | Nusuk Hajj registration opens; create your account and complete identity checks. |
| 7 to 5 months before | Package sales open in phases; the early-preference phase for eligible pilgrims ran in January 2026. Compare and pay. |
| 4 to 2 months before | Visa and Nusuk card issued against your booking; book flights; vaccinations at least 10 days before departure. |
| Dhul Hijjah | Travel on the package dates; the Ministry publishes cut-off dates for arrivals. |
Illustrative order of events; the authority publishes exact dates each season and they move with the Hijri calendar.
What it costs from Canada
A single authoritative, currently sourced package price in Canadian dollars was not found in available reporting, pricing is set independently by each private agent rather than a published national figure. We point prospective pilgrims to compare current agents' published price lists or use our calculator rather than quoting a figure here. Rather than guess, compare current licensed operators' published price lists side by side, since the main cost drivers, hotel distance from the Haram, flight class, and group size, vary more between operators than between years.
The drivers are the same everywhere: camp category in Mina, hotel distance from the Haram in Makkah and Madinah, room sharing, flights from Canada, and whether meals and internal transport are bundled. See Hajj budgeting and shifting versus non-shifting packages.
How much does Hajj cost from Canada?
Our Canadian cost guide gives planning ranges of roughly 11,000 to 15,000 Canadian dollars per person for a standard Nusuk package, 16,000 to 22,000 for premium and 23,000 to 30,000 or more for luxury, before flights and personal spending. Those are estimates from recent seasons, not quotes; the 2027 prices appear on hajj.nusuk.sa when sales open. The price is set by the Mina camp category, the hotels' distance from the Haram, room sharing, nights in Madinah and the meal plan, and Canadians add the transatlantic fare on top. Read Hajj cost from Canada for the breakdown and the step-by-step Nusuk plan for the timeline.
Umrah from Canada while you wait
Canadian passport holders are on the Saudi eVisa list and can apply directly on the official portal or Nusuk; the eVisa allows Umrah outside the Hajj season. Saudia flies nonstop from Toronto to Jeddah; from other cities you connect through Toronto or a European or Gulf hub. The Government of Canada publishes a Hajj and Umrah travel-safety page worth reading before you book.

Vaccines and health documents for Hajj and Umrah from Canada
These are the Saudi Ministry of Health requirements for Umrah travellers in the 1447 H (2026) edition, read for Canada specifically. The Hajj list is issued separately each season and is normally the same or stricter. Certificates are checked at the airport of departure and on arrival.
| Requirement | What applies to travellers from Canada |
|---|---|
| Meningococcal (ACYW) vaccine | Required for every pilgrim from every country: conjugate vaccine within 5 years, or polysaccharide within 3 years, given at least 10 days before arrival. |
| Polio | Not required for travellers from Canada in the 1447 H list. Keep routine immunisation up to date. |
| Yellow fever | Not required for travellers arriving from Canada. It applies only if you arrive from a listed yellow fever country. |
| COVID-19 | Required only for higher-risk groups (over 65, pregnant, chronic heart, lung or kidney disease, blood disorders, immunodeficiency, cancer, chronic neurological disease): an updated 2025-2026 dose, a completed 2021-2024 primary series, or confirmed infection in 2025. |
| Recommended | Seasonal influenza vaccine; routine immunisations up to date; carry medication in original packaging with a doctor's note. |

Saudi embassy and consulates in Canada
The Saudi Embassy in Canada is in Ottawa. You do not need to visit them for a tourist eVisa or an Umrah visa: both are issued online. The embassy matters for passport problems, document attestation, and visa categories that are not electronic. Opening hours and services are on each mission's page at mofa.gov.sa.
Flying to Jeddah or Madinah from Canada
Saudia lists scheduled passenger flights from Toronto. Jeddah (King Abdulaziz International) is the gateway for Makkah; Madinah (Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International) suits pilgrims starting in Madinah. Gulf carriers, flynas, flyadeal and national airlines also serve these markets, often at lower fares with one stop.

Mistakes to avoid
- Paying a "Hajj package" to an agent or individual outside Nusuk. For serviced countries the Ministry issues Hajj visas only through the platform, and pilgrims with outside bookings have been refused entry.
- Waiting for prices to fall. Packages sell out in order of popularity, and the cheapest tiers go first.
- Assuming an Umrah or tourist visa can be used for Hajj. It cannot.
- Booking flights before the package is confirmed in your Nusuk account.
Practical tips
- Check whether your agent's travel component is covered by a provincial compensation fund (e.g. Ontario's TICO)
- Get references from an established mosque or Islamic center before booking
- Confirm exactly what's included in the package before paying
- Book early, group sizes for popular departure dates fill quickly
- Check the Nusuk Hajj platform directly as an alternative to a private agent
