How Hajj registration works in Tunisia

Tunisia's National Hajj and Umrah Office organizes the country's official Hajj package, with registration opening during an announced window each year through the Office and its regional branches or partner banks; a smaller share of the quota is available through licensed private travel agencies at a higher price for those who prefer more control over hotel choice. When applications exceed the official quota, the Office has used a lottery in past years to allocate the remaining places fairly among registrants. Selected pilgrims pay a published package price in installments in Tunisian dinars through the Office's official channels, and the Office coordinates group travel, accommodation and in-country logistics, publishing the departure calendar once arrangements with Saudi authorities are finalized.

Registration for Hajj 1447 / 2026 ran from 11 August to 8 September 2025, only on the Ministry's website. Tunisia's 2026 quota was 10,982, of which 9,982 places were drawn by lottery and 1,000 reserved for Tunisians living abroad; nearly 230,000 people applied. The Ministry's platform lets you check your file status, your ranking within your delegation and your years of waiting.

Step by step

  1. Register with Ministry of Religious Affairs during its announced window; most countries open registration many months before Hajj and some run multi-year queues.
  2. If applications exceed the quota, wait for the lottery or queue result; keep your registration current each year if the system requires renewal.
  3. Choose between the government package and a licensed private operator's package where both exist, and pay only through the channels the authority names.
  4. Complete the medical examination and vaccinations in time for the visa file; the national mission submits your details to the Saudi Ministry and receives your visa and Nusuk card.
  5. Attend the pre-departure training and travel with your group on the scheduled flights.

Typical timeline

WhenWhat happens
12 months or more before HajjRegistration window at Ministry of Religious Affairs (Tunisia); some countries run queues measured in years.
9 to 6 months beforeLottery or queue results; payment deadline; choice of government or licensed private package where both exist.
5 to 2 months beforeMedical examination, vaccinations, passport submission; the national mission files visas with the Saudi Ministry.

Illustrative order of events; the authority publishes exact dates each season and they move with the Hijri calendar.

What it costs from Tunisia

The National Hajj and Umrah Office publishes an official package price each year in Tunisian dinars; private-agency packages cost more. We don't quote a fixed figure here since it's reset annually, check the Office's current announcement or our calculator. Rather than guess, compare current licensed operators' published price lists side by side, since the main cost drivers, hotel distance from the Haram, flight class, and group size, vary more between operators than between years.

The drivers are the same everywhere: camp category in Mina, hotel distance from the Haram in Makkah and Madinah, room sharing, flights from Tunisia, and whether meals and internal transport are bundled. See Hajj budgeting and shifting versus non-shifting packages.

Registering for Hajj 2027 from Tunisia

Registration is online only, on the Ministry of Religious Affairs website, in a window the Ministry announces each year. For the 2026 season it ran from 11 August to 8 September 2025; the 2027 window is set by the Ministry, so check its site and announcements rather than assuming the same dates. After the window closes, places are drawn by lottery: for 2026, 9,982 of the 10,982 places were drawn and 1,000 were reserved for Tunisians living abroad, with nearly 230,000 applicants. The Ministry's platform lets you check your file status, your ranking within your delegation and your years of waiting, which is the only reliable way to know where you stand. Keep your registration current each year if the system requires renewal, pay only through the official channels the Ministry names, and treat any private offer of a guaranteed place as a scam.

Saudi embassy and consulates in Tunisia

The Saudi Embassy in Tunisia is in Tunis. Umrah visas are filed electronically by your licensed operator, so most pilgrims never visit. The embassy matters for document attestation, family-visit visas and problems with an application. Opening hours and services are on each mission's page at mofa.gov.sa.

Flying to Jeddah or Madinah from Tunisia

Saudia lists scheduled passenger flights from Tunis. Jeddah (King Abdulaziz International) is the gateway for Makkah; Madinah (Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International) suits pilgrims starting in Madinah. Gulf carriers, flynas, flyadeal and national airlines also serve these markets, often at lower fares with one stop.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Registering through a sub-agent who is not on the national authority's approved list.
  • Missing the payment deadline after selection; unpaid places are reallocated and several countries report thousands of missed visas each year.
  • Expecting to book Hajj on Nusuk directly. Tunisia is not on the Nusuk serviced-countries list, so the national mission is the only route.
  • Leaving the medical file and vaccinations to the last month.

Practical tips

  • Register through the National Hajj and Umrah Office or its official partner banks
  • Expect a lottery if applications exceed that year's quota
  • Compare official vs. private-agency packages if you want more control over hotel choice
  • Complete required medical and vaccination checks ahead of the deadline
  • Confirm payment installment dates with the Office to avoid losing your place
